Today, UDG hosted a workshop titled “National workshop on obstacles and opportunities for successful application of modern tools for digitization and laboratory testing in the food production chain” organized by FoodHub Centre of Excellence. The event was attended by representatives from partner institutions, Ministy of Science, and industry. We presented previous and current projects, namely TagItWine, DIPOL, DEMETER, and their relation to the work packages in FoodHub project. Focus was on IoT, sensors, the use of Blockchain and product ID for applications in food production and supply chain.

The second workshop on ICT in agriculture in a series of trainings within the VIRAL project will be organized on October 06-07th, 2020 in Mostar. The lecturers are professors and researchers from the University Donja Gorica, Wageningen University & Research, University of Maribor, University of Mostar, Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Water management Republic of Srpska and IT company Meta5.

Dr Tomo Popovic gave a lecture titled “Precision Agriculture based on IoT, Cloud, and Mobile Apps”. More info on the event on VIRAL website link.

Our researchers prepared a presentation titled “Digital transformation and smart agriculture” in a form of recorded webinar on HighTech-Hub portal. DIPOL and H2020 DEMETER projects were featured in a blog post as well as in a technical webinar.

DIPOL project was presented in local newspaper Dnevne Novine today. Dr. Popovic gave an interview discussing the project results, involvement of young researchers. One of the main points stressed in this interview is the importance of sustainability, creation of new partnerships and new projects. Link.

Project DIPOL was featured in the paper “Meteorological Data Aggregation System for Application in Agriculture 2.0” by B. Lazarevic and T. Popovic was presented at the 2020 IcETRAN conference today. More about the conference at the following link.

ABSTRACT – Digital transformation has given numerous new possibilities for improvement of all industries through creation of new business processes or changes to existing ones. Agriculture, specifically, has experienced a “rebirth” through the use of digital technologies such as sensor networks, drones, satellites and similar, which has received a name Agriculture 2.0. Meteorological data management systems found their use in agriculture decision supporting solutions, as well. However, there are some challenges, these solutions are only as good as the data made available to them and implementing a system for acquiring quality data may be very expensive. The research described in this paper aims to solve these issues by using multiple publicly available free weather data sources and analyzing it to get the best possible results. The proposed system builds on acquired and analyzed data to provide users with features such as reliable notifications and machine/equipment automation.

In the organization of VIRAL Erasmus project, experts from Wageningen University and Research teams gave an introductory workshop on IoT architecture, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and drones, and their applications in agriculture. The event was organized as a virtual webinar for educators from institutions participating in the VIRAL project, and there was around 50 attendees.

Today, UDG participated in the official kick-off of EuroCC, a project under Horizon H2020 programme aimed at creating National Competence Centers (NCCs) for High Performance Computing (HPC), High Performance Data Analysis (HPDA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). UDG won another Horizon 2020 grant! This time under very competitive Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange programme. This programme funds short-term exchanges of personnel between academic, industrial and commercial organisations throughout the world. The projects are implemented through the secondments of staff for a period of one to 12 months. This was the last MSCA-RISE call under Horizon 2020 and there was 408 proposals submitted.

The research in H2020 TRACEWINDU project will address food sciences, safety, wine traceability, authenticity, agroindustry supported by the latest information technology such as IoT, blockchain, and the use of QR code smart tags. The partners on the projects come from Spain, Italy, France, Argentina, Serbia and Montenegro. This partnership is result of collaboration with DunavNET and 13. jul Plantaže.
