Digital Transformation Is About Talent, Not Technology

An interesting article posted on Harvard Business Review site: “Contrary to popular belief, digital transformation is less about technology and more about people. You can pretty much buy any technology, but your ability to adapt to an even more digital future depends on developing the next generation of skills, closing the gap between talent supply and demand, and future-proofing your own and others’ potential…”

Conference paper on Precision Viticulture at the IEEE MECO 2020 Conference

A conference publication on Precision Viticulture was presented at the 9th Mediterranean Conference on Embedded Computing (IEEE MECO’2020) Conference. The paper title is “Precision Viticulture Using Wireless Sensor Network” and the authors are V. Maras, T. Popovic, S. Gajinov, M. Mugosa, V. Popovic, A. Savovic, K. Pavicevic, and V. Mirovic. The paper is a result of collaboration between the company “13. jul Plantaže”, DunavNET and UDG. It is focused on irrigation optimization and this is a part of DIPOL cross-project collaboration effort.

MECO 2020 Conference, Budva, Montenegro, 8-11th June 2020.

ABSTRACT—This Viticulture has always, by definition, been a “precision” production: detailed knowledge of not only individual vineyards, but also each grapevine individually, provided detailed programming of work operations and production factors adapted for each parcel individually or, better said, for each part of a single parcel. The spatial variability of a particular vineyard can be due to any difference in any element or property for each of the natural, biological, agronomic factors which influence vine performance and the expression of grape and wine characters. This research is aimed at developing methods to quantify temporal variability observed within vineyards and to use data processing tools to assist wine producers and viticulturists to control, analyse and make decisions from so-provided information. Combining the technologies and methodologies will allow wine growers to improve and optimize production systems by taking into account technical and economic aspects of management as well as environmental issues at an intra-parcel (sub-block) level.

The workshop will address the current framework for data sharing in the European agri-food sector by focusing on the “EU code of conduct on agricultural data sharing by contractual agreement”, which reflects the agreement of the main stakeholders on the principles that should regulate agricultural data sharing, building trust for the farming sector from the very beginning. The workshop will review current initiatives built upon the code of conduct.

The second part of the workshop will be devoted to make agriculture data sharing a reality. From high-level generic architectures to practical implementations in real agri-food use cases, the workshop will discuss on the proper technologies, architectures and standards that are needed for achieving a true European data space for agriculture.
